If you are looking for an easy, healthy, and palatable treat, get out your jerky gun and mix up a batch of these! Made out of fresh meat you get from the grocery store and canned salmon, they make great treats or a fast meal for when you are on the road or those times when appetites are off a bit.
2 ½ to 3 pounds ground chicken, beef (85/15), or lamb (or any combination of them)
15 ounce can of salmon
Grind the chicken or lamb to the same consistency as the ground beef you get from the store. A food processor works well for this if you don’t have a food grinder.
Thoroughly mash the whole can of salmon, bones, skin, and oil included. If you already have your food processor out, run it through that.
Mix the meat and salmon together until well blended. Put the round tip on the jerky gun and start loading the barrel with the meat mix and filling your dehydrator trays. Drying time will vary by brand of dehydrator. If you don’t have a dehydrator, your oven can be used. Set at 200 degrees and rotate trays every 2 or 3 hours until dried.
These break up into any size pieces you prefer. Store excess in the freezer to keep it fresh, although it will not spoil if you keep it in the pantry up to 2 months.
